If you want to go down a really steep hill really fast standing up on a skateboard, you’ve really got to know what you’re doing.  If you want to so the same thing lying down, it’s not quite so difficult.  It is, of course, difficult to get good at it but right from the word go, you’re in business.  Braking with you’re feet’s a doddle and if (when) you crash it’s nowhere near as painful because you’re lying down already.  So, if you’re considering having a go at it or if you do it already and want to up your game, the Dangerous Decks Bottlerocket is most definitely the way to go.  Classic Luge, or buttboarding as its more widely known, was set up as an accessible, low tech formula to avoid the carbon fibre and titanium fuelled madness of full on Street Luge racing and our 4′x1′ deck with it’s simple concave and hardwood grip rails was created in this spirit.   Pressed up from 4 layers of 4mm birch ply, this 16mm thick deck is completely rigid under even the heaviest of riders.  The concave gives a reassuring sense of location up front while the curve of the cut away tail gives your shoulder blades something to locate with and also allows you to hang off for maximum high speed cornering control.  After a lot of experimentation we’ve drilled  the deck for 2 wheelbase options and routed out some monster wheel wells to cover them both.  Where your shoulders go’s been left slippery for nifty manouvering and the rest of the deck is covered with 3mm closed cell neoprene which gives just the right amount of grip and a very welcome amount of comfort without feeling squashy.  Holeys are fast emerging as the truck of choice for classic luge racing and the fully IGSA compliant complete teams them up with blue bushings, Grind King bolts and 70mm Abec11 70′s Flashbacks spinning on Bones Reds bearings.  We’ve topped 50mph on this setup like we were on rails.  Get out there and get racing!
